Pediatric Education and Active Resident Learning (PEARL) Conference
Weekly afternoon-blocked conference that is interactive, case-based educational sessions lead by our dedicated pediatric faculty
These conferences are multidisciplinary, providing perspectives from different specialties
To promote resident education, pagers are forwarded to faculty during this conference (12:30-4pm)
Morning Conferences
Morning Report
This dynamic, resident-driven conference focuses on the problem-oriented approach to both inpatient and outpatient cases of interest
The chief residents facilitate discussion about the differential diagnoses, management, and plan with support from faculty in attendance
This conference is held Monday and Wednesday from 8-9am
Problem Conference
This popular, chief-led conference emphasizes in-depth, critical thinking in the development of differential diagnosis, evidence-based evaluation and treatment of an interesting case
Conference is held Tuesdays 8-9am
Grand Rounds
Local and national speakers discuss state-of-the-art research, clinical initiatives, health care delivery practices, and a comprehensive review of important pediatric topics
Grand rounds are hosted in the medical school every Thursday from 730-830 am
M&M (Morbidity AND Mortality)
Once monthly, a third year resident present a case conference focusing on areas for improvement in patient care
EBM (Evidenced-based medicine)
Monthly presentations, led by senior residents, reviewing a journal article of their choosing, addressing a PICO question
Advocacy
Our interns present the projects they created during their advocacy month
Other Resident-Focused Learning
Chair Rounds
The Chair of Pediatrics, Dr. Wald (a pediatric infectious disease specialist), attends rounds on Tuesday mornings with the inpatient team to offer additional teaching and guidance
Schwartz Rounds
Bi-monthly forum for professional caregivers from different departments to discuss the social and emotional aspects of caring for patients. Each session emphasizes a specific theme or topic and is regularly attended by professionals in multiple disciplines
Board Review
Every other Friday morning our senior residents meet with an attending to discuss board review questions pertaining to that faculty’s specialty.
Intern Conference
Interns gather together every other Friday morning to have either an intern-only morning report session with the chiefs or an “intern boot camp” lecture given by faculty on a core pediatric topic.
Subspecialty conferences
Each specialty has weekly conferences that residents are encouraged to attend
