The Department of Pediatrics’ inaugural Medical Education Week will be held April 19-21, 2023. Through a mix of live-streamed lectures, an in-person workshop, and interactive sessions, members of the department and the entire University of Wisconsin–Madison community can hear the latest in medical education. The mission of this week is to emphasize medical education as a cornerstone of the Department of Pediatrics by highlighting innovations and best practices, discussing implementation in our department, and empowering faculty to grow as educators. Continuing medical education (CME) credit will be available.
Learning Objectives:
- Describe innovations and best practices in medical education.
- Improve the implementation of medical education skills, innovations and application for trainee and faculty education and scholarship.
- Discuss self-determination theory and how it impacts leaner and faculty education.
- Evaluate health equity within medical education at a local and national level.

“Competency Based Medical Education (CBME) in Pediatrics: An update on Entrustable Professional Activities (EPAs) and Milestones”

“Implementation of EPAs: Practicalities and Pitfalls”
This interactive session will explore the advantages of EPAs in a Competency Based Medical Education system for teaching and assessing Learners. Characteristics of EPAs and Milestones will be delineated and highlighted using various learner scenarios. Evidence based best practice strategies for EPA implementation will be introduced, and their application to the local environment will be considered. Participants will describe the current and local assessment.
