The Division of Developmental Pediatrics and Rehabilitation Medicine comprises a unique combination of subspecialty services for children with a wide range of developmental needs. We serve children with established developmental disorders as well as children who may be at risk of delays in their development, and make available over 25 different clinical programs, all housed in the Waisman Center located directly across from the American Family Children’s Hospital.
Our division practices the highest standards of family centered care, drawing on the skills of interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary specialists including developmental pediatricians, nurse practitioners, psychologists, occupational, physical, and speech therapists, audiologists, social workers, family advocates, and nutritionists.
All of our clinics are closely aligned and communicate routinely with the Divisions of Genetics, and Rehabilitation Medicine and with colleagues from Pediatric Orthopedics and Neurosurgery through a system of care coordination. This collaboration further enriches the experiences of the children we follow.
The division conducts and participates in a number of research activities specifically related to advancing knowledge about human development, many based at the Waisman Center. We are actively involved in not only medical student and resident teaching, but also in the training of future leaders from many disciplines in the field of Neurodevelopmental Disabilities, through a number of graduate and post-graduate training programs at the University of Wisconsin.
