Why Choose the UW Pediatric Critical Care Fellowship?
Individualized Education
While all critical care fellows must gain certain skills and knowledge during fellowship, they frequently have individual career goals. Our medium-sized program affords ample time to work closely with you to design individualized activities, including a variety of elective opportunities in pediatric and adult critical care, that meet your specific needs.
Fellow-driven Research Projects
We strive to provide a successful foundation for the rest of your career. Therefore, we believe gaining experience and skills in research is best achieved by embarking on an idea that you are passionate about. Fellows can pursue clinical, basic-science, educational and/or quality research within the division, the Department of Pediatrics, or anywhere throughout the expansive University campus.
International Recognized Teaching Hospital with Consistently High Quality Care
- American Family Children’s Hospital (AFCH) is nationally ranked in three specialties by U.S. News & World Report for 2025–2026: pediatric cardiology and heart surgery, pediatric gastroenterology and GI surgery, and neonatology. This recognition places AFCH among the elite children’s hospitals in the nation.
- The Society of Thoracic Surgeons has developed a comprehensive rating system that allows for comparisons regarding the quality of cardiac surgery among hospitals across the country. Approximately 10% of hospitals receive the “3-star” rating, which denotes the highest category of quality. In the current analysis of national data covering the period from January, 2021 through December, 2024, the cardiac surgery performance of our hospital was found to lie in the highest quality tier, thereby receiving an STS 3-star rating.
- Newsweek ranked University Hospital 27th in the nation on its World’s Best Hospitals 2025 list.
