Clinical Care Week 2026
September 8-10, 2026
The Department of Pediatrics Clinical Care Week, taking place September 8–10, 2026, is a hybrid conference designed to cultivate an interdisciplinary learning community among health care providers. Centered on innovations in pediatric care across Wisconsin and beyond, the event supports our vision that all patients and families receive the highest quality care. Through continuing education and the exchange of best practices, the conference aims to strengthen clinical guidelines, enhance cross-disciplinary collaboration, and advance health equity. Clinical Care Week also provides valuable opportunities to connect, reflect, and promote the well-being of patients, families, and care teams.
Continuing medical education (CME) credit will be available.

The Iams-Tuffli Lecture
New this year, we are excited to include the Iams-Tuffli Lectureship as part of Clinical Care Week. The Iams-Tuffli Lecture is an annual lecture series focused on the practice of pediatrics. The series is named in honor of the late Alexander Iams, MD, and Gordon Tuffli, MD, two Madison-based pediatricians and friends who embodied the lecture series’ goal of promoting camaraderie in the field of pediatrics.
After Dr. Iams passed away in 1984, his family, including his son and daughter-in-law, Jay and Pat Iams, established a memorial fund and lecture series to honor his more than 35 years in pediatrics. The annual lecture covers a diverse range of topics relevant to pediatricians in both private and academic settings. We are grateful that the memorial fund generously supports registration fees for all participants, helping make this important educational opportunity widely accessible.
The 2026 Iams-Tuffli Lectureship will take place on Thursday, September 10, from 7:30–8:30 a.m. in HSLC 1335 and via Zoom.
We are excited to welcome David J. Schonfeld, MD, FAAP, director of the National Center for School Crisis and Bereavement at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles and professor of clinical pediatrics at the USC Keck School of Medicine. Dr. Schonfeld will present “Supporting Children, Families, and Professionals in the Aftermath of Crisis.”

This session with provide practical suggestions on how to identify common adjustment difficulties in children in the aftermath of a crisis and to promote effective coping strategies. The session will also highlight the differences between trauma and loss and the implications for how to support children and families in the aftermath of both.
