Shared governance gives representation to academic staff, university staff, faculty and students, who all take part in making significant decisions concerning the operation of the university. Shared governance is a unique and important aspect of life at the University of Wisconsin–Madison.
Learn more about how to participate on the UW’s Shared Governance webpage.
Departmental Executive Committees are an important part of this shared governance model. The membership and functions of a departmental Executive Committee are outlined in Chapter 5 of UW Faculty Policies and Procedures. The Department of Pediatrics Executive Committee reviews progress toward promotion and makes recommendations concerning faculty promotions and appointments. Appointments may include both paid faculty appointments and zero-dollar appointments like affiliate and emeritus appointments.
The Wisconsin Open Meetings Law provides that all meetings of governmental bodies shall be preceded by public notice and shall be publicly held in places reasonably accessible to all. At any meeting of a governmental body, all discussion shall be held and all action of any kind, formal or informal, shall be initiated, deliberated upon and acted upon only in open session, unless a closed session is specifically authorized by the statute. The law is to be liberally construed to afford the public the fullest and most complete information regarding the affairs of government as is compatible with conduct of governmental business.
In accordance with the Wisconsin Open Meetings Law, Department of Pediatrics Executive Committee agendas will be posted here at least 24 hours prior to the commencement of such a meeting.
