Session Title: Pointers & Pitfalls for Posters, Podium Presentations, and Pitches
Speaker: Mike Pitt, MD
Session Overview:
Manufacturers spend lots of time and money thinking about packaging because the it is the forward facing aspect of their product. They could have the greatest product in the world, but it will stay on the shelves if the packaging isn’t appealing and doesn’t reflect the value of the product. Well, posters and platform presentations are the packaging of our academic products! We shouldn’t waste all the work that went into a project by falling into the trap that posters should be in a standard template that basically result in an 8×4 foot written abstract. Design matters. No matter how cutting edge or brilliant the content of our presentation is, if our audience is looking at their phones the whole time, or walking past our poster, our message is lost. Just in time for conference season, we will go over proven tips to elevate your slide presentations and poster to design to engaging, easy to follow, sessions with eye-popping visuals.
Objectives:
- Implement strategies to elevate the visuals of our academic presentations
- Demonstrate the value of having a concise elevator pitch summarizing your project
- Incorporate readily available tools to create compelling visual presentations
