Ralphe Research Group member AJ Ross receives academic accolades from Midwest Pediatric Cardiology Society and Association of Black Cardiologists

Anthony “AJ” Ross, a student researcher, a 2024 Shapiro Student in the Ralphe Research Group, and a second-year medical student at the UW School of Medicine and Public Health, received the “Best Medical Student Presentation” award at the 2024 Midwest Pediatric Cardiology Society Meeting, held September 12–13 at Children’s Wisconsin in Milwaukee. Ross was also selected to receive a scholarship from the Association of Black Cardiologists: a $10,000 award to offset the cost of medical school. The society hosted him in Los Angeles to receive the award on September 14.

Ross’s research interests are in congenital hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM), and he expects to pursue a career in pediatric cardiology after medical school. Ross joined the Ralphe Research Group in May 2021 while completing his undergraduate degree in neurobiology. Ross says J. Carter Ralphe, MD, professor and chief, Division of Cardiology, has been a huge role model and mentor for several years, and he is excited to continue his work under Dr. Ralphe’s guidance.
