Michelle Kelly receives grant from AHRQ to study ‘Bedside Notes’ project

The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) recently awarded Michelle Kelly, MD, PhD, professor, Division of Hospital Medicine and Complex Care, a grant for her project, “Bedside Notes: A Multicenter Trial to Improve Family Clinical Note Access and Outcomes for Hospitalized Children.” The five-year grant, which began on September 30, 2024, is expected to total $1,988,995. Ryan Coller, MD, MPH, associate professor and chief, Division of Hospital Medicine and Complex Care, will serve as a co-investigator. The project will evaluate Bedside Notes, a health IT intervention designed to improve parent note access and, in turn, parent engagement in safety concern reporting in the pediatric inpatient setting. The specific aims in this project are to 1) assess the impact of the Bedside Notes intervention on parent access to inpatient notes, 2) evaluate the effectiveness of note access on improving parent safety perceptions and experiences, and 3) identify contextual factors contributing to parent use of and hospital staff receptivity to the Bedside Notes intervention.
