Last month, the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health launched a new Alumni Network, designed to bring together former trainees, emeritus faculty, and other friends of the department. We hope the network will foster a sense of connection and encourage engagement among alumni and our current students, residents, fellows, and faculty.
All members of the Alumni Network will receive a quarterly electronic newsletter, Alumni Network News. There you will find information about Pediatrics Grand Rounds and special professional development events, opportunities to train and mentor learners, open faculty positions, and more.
Alumni and friends can stay up to date on department news between e-newsletter issues by following the department on LinkedIn, Instagram, and X. The Alumni Network webpage explains how health professionals can train and support the next generation of pediatricians.
Key benefits
Our goal with the Alumni Network is to deliver on five key benefits:
- Networking Opportunities: We want to create connections and give network members the chance to share experiences, seek advice, and collaborate on projects. This can lead to new job opportunities, partnerships, and mentorships.
- Professional Development: Our department offers grand rounds, workshops, seminars, and conferences that focus on skill development and industry trends. These events help clinicians, researchers, and trainees stay updated and competitive in their fields. Most are hybrid and alumni are welcome to attend.
- Career Support: Learn about open faculty and trainee positions through the Alumni Network. These resources can be invaluable for members looking to advance their careers or transition to new roles. We also encourage you to recommend colleagues to our open positions!
- Social Engagement: The department hosts an Alumni, Faculty, and Friends Reception each year at the Pediatric Academic Societies (PAS) Meeting, allowing attendees to reconnect and build lasting relationships. In addition, our LinkedIn page provides opportunities for virtual social engagement. We hope these activities strengthen the sense of community and belonging among alumni.
- Giving Back: We encourage Alumni Network members to give back to their alma mater through volunteer opportunities, fundraising campaigns, and mentorship programs. This support helps current students, residents, and fellows, and strengthens the institution’s reputation to attract more great trainees and faculty.
We are excited to engage with you, our alumni and friends, as we embark on this exciting chapter. We appreciate your support and invite you to join us in our mission to promote and enhance the health of children in Wisconsin and beyond!
