Phase 3 of the SMPH ForWard Curriculum is dedicated to specialty-specific competency development and internship preparation with opportunities for individualized electives, career advising, and special projects. Laura Chen, MD, assistant professor, Division of Hospital Medicine and Complex Care, began her new role as course director of Phase 3 Inpatient Acting Internships–Pediatrics on January 1. This role was previously held by Elizbeth McBride, MD, assistant professor, Division of Neonatology and Newborn Nursery, who piloted a formative knowledge tool for students during their Pediatrics Inpatient Acting Internship. A poster abstract about this work has been accepted for the 2025 Council on Medical Student Education in Pediatrics (COMSEP) Conference. “For me, a highlight of the role has been the opportunity to collaborate with many talented individuals that I typically don’t have a chance to meet in my clinical work as a neonatologist,” McBride said. “I have been honored to work alongside everyone in the department of pediatrics who creates meaningful educational experiences and respectful learning environments, which have been consistently top-rated by students.”
