The state of Wisconsin awarded a grant totaling $40,000 to Julie Kessel, MD, associate professor, and Elizabeth Goetz, MD, MPH, professor, both from the Division of Neonatology and Newborn Nursery. The funds will be used to establish and convene a statewide task force to gather input from individuals and agencies with professional or lived experiences with congenital cytomegalovirus (cCMV). The funds will also be used to promote community outreach and education around cCMV prevention and screening as well as to identify the remaining steps needed to ensure high-quality, systemic cCMV screening statewide. The study began in July of this year and will commence in June 2025.
