In his new role as director of neonatal-perinatal cardiac coordination, Adam Bauer, MD, assistant professor, Division of Neonatology and Newborn Nursery, will be responsible for providing comprehensive, multidisciplinary care planning for fetuses diagnosed with congenital heart disease, supporting the Pediatric Heart Program within the Division of Neonatology and Newborn Nursery, and collaborating with fellows and APPs who are interested in fetal/neonatal cardiology to enhance patient care. Bauer will serve as the primary neonatology consultant for the Fetal Cardiology Clinic and as a vital participant in the Congenital Heart Disease Program Quality Improvement Team. As director he will be responsible for developing and maintaining guidelines for the care of neonates with congenital heart disease at the American Family Children’s Hospital (AFCH) NICU and the UnityPoint Health-Meriter NICU, both pre- and post-operatively. As part of the director’s further responsibilities, Bauer will participate in prenatal consults and work closely with the prenatal care coordination team to plan complex deliveries, advancing our OB-neonatal-cardiology programs and improving patient outcomes.
