Leslie Huang, a first-year medical student, was recently awarded a Cystic Fibrosis Foundation (CFF) Student Traineeship in the amount of $3,000. This one-year award, under the leadership of mentor Philip Farrell, MD, PhD, emeritus dean and professor, Pulmonology and Sleep Medicine, will support their project, “Impact of Genetic Modifiers on Clinical Outcomes in Young Children with CF.” The project will analyze whole genome sequencing data obtained from FIRST, the multi-center cystic fibrosis (CF) study, to investigate CF genetic modifiers and their relationship to gastrointestinal and pulmonary phenotypes during the first 36 months of life. The aim of the CFF Student Traineeship program is to introduce students to CF-related research in hopes of encouraging the pursuit and maintenance of interest in the CF field.
