The UW Institute for Clinical and Translational Research (ICTR) named Neil Munjal, MD, MS, assistant professor, Divisions of Critical Care and Global Pediatrics, to its KL2 Scholars Program. Funded by the NIH through ICTR’s Clinical and Translational Science Award (CTSA), the KL2 Scholars Program provides early-career investigators with training, mentoring, and protected time to develop an independent research program. This award will support Munjal’s project, “Predicting Cerebral Edema in Pediatric Diabetic Ketoacidosis,” and help him advance his long-term career goal of developing and deploying predictive and causal models of ICU deterioration to improve outcomes related to life-threatening illnesses and injuries in pediatric patients. The program will support 75% of Munjal’s salary and provide an additional $30,000 for research in each year of the award. The appointment is for a maximum of three years and started on July 1 of this year.
