Congratulations to Bruce Klein, MD, named one this year’s Hilldale Award recipients, the University’s top honor for faculty members. Awarded since 1987, the Hilldale Award honors professors who have excelled in teaching, research and service. Honors are given in each of four division: biological sciences, physical sciences, social studies and arts and humanities and are funded from the Hilldale Fund. The award recognized Dr. Klein’s contributions in research focusing on the study of fungi that are pathogenic for humans. His laboratory’s creation of a transgenic mouse strain that harbors the T-cell receptor of protective T-lymnphocytes against Blastomyces was the first mouse of its kind in this discipline and should offer new insight into the unique biology concerning the development of antifungal immunity and memory.
