Tony Garcia-Prats awarded grant to assess new pediatric antituberculosis developments

Anthony "Tony" Garcia-Prats, MD, MScAnthony Garcia-Prats, MD, MSc, PhD, associate professor, Divisions of General Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine and Global Pediatrics, has been awarded a seven-month grant for $50,000 from Unitaid and the World Health Organization. The grant period is August 1, 2022, through March 31, 2023, and it will support the startup funding of the project “Chasing Expedited and Equitable Treatment Access for Children (CHEETA).” Garcia-Prats will assemble key experts and stakeholders in pediatric TB drug development as a task force that will assess and track the status of pediatric investigational paths for new antituberculosis compounds being developed. In addition, the task force will communicate with key adult TB drug initiatives to inform prioritization of pediatric TB drug development activities. It will also develop a proposal to secure funding. The overall goal of the CHEETA project is to advocate for the accelerated development of and equitable access to new TB drugs for children.
