Tess Jewell honored with 2024 Excellence in Medicine Award from AMA Foundation

Tess Jewell is an MD-MPH student at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health and an aspiring pediatric endocrinologist. She has been working with Jennifer Rehm, MD, associate professor, Division of Endocrinology and Diabetes, since June 2021, primarily on a retrospective chart review exploring the experiences of pediatric patients with Variations in Sex Characteristics. Jewell is also involved in projects related to gender-affirming care. Jewell received the Excellence in LGBTQ+ Health Award–Student from the American Medical Association (AMA) Foundation, one of 10 awards it presented at the recent AMA Annual Meeting in Chicago. Jewell is a 2024 GLMA Health Professional in Training (HPiT) Fellow. This is also her second year as a GLMA HPiT Curriculum Reform Committee member, and she is co-chair this year. Jewell worked on the AMA Medical Student Section Standing Committee on LGBTQ+ Affairs from 2022 to 2023 and is passionate about advancing LGBTQ+-inclusive education for all health-professional trainees.
