UnityPoint Health – Meriter opened the Neonatal Education Simulation and Training Center (NEST) to educate and train medical professionals in newborn care. The NEST provides a space for learners to practice and discuss their performance after simulation education. While neonatal skills are essential, communication is also vital for success, according to Ryan McAdams, MD, professor in the Divisions of Neonatology and Newborn Nursery and Global Pediatrics. “We should study performance more in medicine,” McAdams explained, “and there are not enough pediatric-focused simulation centers.” NEST uses virtual reality and simulation headsets to connect with national experts and provide advanced neonatal training.
