Congratulations to Lauren Zebertavage, PhD, post-doctoral fellow, and her mentor, Paul Sondel, MD, PhD, professor, Hematology, Oncology and Bone Marrow Transplant, for their recent fellowship award from the Hartwell Foundation. The two-year grant, “Developing effective immunotherapy combinations for preclinical models of high-risk and relapsed neuroblastoma,” awards $100,000 in stipend support to Zebertavage while she works on her research to minimize the toxicity associated with radiotherapy and immunotherapy in treatment-resistant neuroblastoma (NBL). Her project aims to improve NBL responses by incorporating pharmacological inhibitors of NBL-driving pathways into immunotherapy regimens. Additionally, her goal is to use the Sondel Lab’s expertise in cancer immunotherapy, combined with novel drugs and tools from collaborators, to find new, safe, and effective treatments for children suffering from this devastating disease.
