Title: Sudden Death in Childhood (SUDC), Slowly Unraveling the Mystery

Session Overview:  This Grand Rounds presentation will provide an evidence-based overview of Sudden Unexplained Death in Childhood (SUDC), including its definition, epidemiology, and how it differs from Sudden Unexpected Infant Death (SUID). Participants will review the current state of SUDC research and discuss its implications for clinical practice. The session will also examine the critical role healthcare professionals play in caring for families following the sudden and unexpected death of a child, while highlighting practical resources available through the SUDC Foundation to support both medical professionals and bereaved families.

Series Overview: Pediatric Grand Rounds is a weekly multidisciplinary and interprofessional conference designed to improve a participant’s ability to practice pediatric medicine, including patient care, conducting healthcare research, providing medical education, addressing public health, and implementing innovation.

Target Audience: MD/DO, RN, APRN, Residents, Fellows, and other Trainees.

Global Learning Objectives:

  1. Identify state of the art, evidence-based pediatric research and/or education, and/or clinical care including the prevention, diagnosis and treatment for pediatric patients.
  2. Analyze issues of social impact and belonging related to pediatric care.
  3. Collaborate and communicate effectively with other health care professionals, community members and families to advocate for health care needs of children.
