Christian Capitini, MD, associate professor, Hematology, Oncology, and Bone Marrow Transplant, along with co-investigator Krishanu Saha, PhD, associate professor, Department of Biomedical Engineering and the Wisconsin Institute for Discovery, were recently awarded a $50,000 grant from the 2021 Wisconsin Immunomodulatory Targeted Radionuclide Therapy (ITRT) Pilot Program. Their project, “Combination CAR T cell and MTRT therapy for pediatric solid tumors,” was supported in part by the University of Wisconsin P01 grant (P01CA250972). This research will determine if treating a tumor with radioactive chemicals will make it more susceptible to killing by CAR T cells. If successful, this pilot award will provide the first evidence that these two separate therapies can be used together safely and effectively to treat solid tumors that do not respond to traditional therapies.
