Childhood Diabetes and Adiposity Research Training Program Renewed by NIH

Congratulations to HuiChuan Lai, PhD, RD, who will serve as a Principal Investigator/Program Director along with co-Program Director Scott Reeder, MD, PhD, UW Department of Radiology, for renewal of a T32 Training grant from the National Institutes of Health/National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIH-NIDDK), renamed, “Childhood Diabetes and Adiposity Research Training Program (C-DART).” Under the additional leadership of four associate directors, David Allen, MD, Elizabeth Cox, MD, PhD, James Ntambi, PhD, and Ellen Wald, MD, this 5-year, $800,000 award, funding Years 11-15 of this ongoing training program administered by the Department of Pediatrics, will fund the stipends of two fellows annually. The mission of the C-DART program is to train post-doctoral MD physician-scientists for productive academic careers in clinical and basic research in prevention and treatment of insulin resistance, type 2 diabetes mellitus and other metabolic complications of obesity and excess visceral and hepatic fat deposition in children.
