Anne Marie Singh, MD, associate professor, Allergy, Immunology, and Rheumatology, was named site Principal Investigator for a new clinical birth cohort study, titled “Childhood Allergy and the Neonatal Environment (CANOE).” In this study, investigators will observe how early life microbial and allergen exposures modify airway epithelial gene expression. Researchers will also examine whether these changes influence mucosal immune development in the development of wheezing. The study, which is part of the Children’s Respiratory Research and Environmental Workgroup, was awarded $59,644 over two years from Duke University and the National Institutes of Health/National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases.
