Ann Allen, MD, assistant professor and fellowship director, Hospital Medicine, was awarded a Maternal–Infant Health and Opioid Use Virtual Learning Collaborative grant from the American Academy of Pediatrics for her work at SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital. This program focuses on improving the discharge planning processes to ensure a safe transition from hospital to home and support continuity care through referrals to community-based providers. Through a blended learning experience, pediatric hospital teams can improve the discharge planning processes for infants with neonatal opioid withdrawal syndrome (NOWS) and their birth parents.
