The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) Council on Adolescents and Young Adults (CoAYA) selected Ellen Seklie, MD, MPH, associate professor, Division of General Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine, as its 2026 recipient of the Richard B. Heyman Award. This prestigious award recognizes an individual who has made contributions to their community to improve health care for teenagers and to educate pediatricians about the required health care needs of adolescents. Selkie was selected for her outstanding commitment to improving the health and well-being of vulnerable adolescents at both the local and national levels. Her work has included transforming the health care system within the Dane County Juvenile Detention Center and advancing care and research to support gender-diverse and LGBTQIA+ youth. The award will be presented during the CoAYA Educational Program at the AAP National Conference in San Diego, October 2–6.
