In honor of Patient Safety Week, American Family Children’s Hospital presented the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) Quality Council with the Safety Teamwork Award. The PICU Quality Council is a multidisciplinary team consisting of experts from nursing, pharmacy, respiratory therapy, and social work, plus physicians, APPs, and others. The council is led by Amanda Kopp, PICU nurse manager; Erica Roth, PICU nurse specialist; Awni Al-Subu, MD, associate professor, Division of Critical Care, PICU medical director; and Michael Wilhelm, MD, associate professor, Division of Critical Care, director of quality and safety for pediatric critical care. The team has worked together to create a robust quality improvement (QI) infrastructure in our PICU. The council meets monthly to review progress of ongoing projects and collaborate on selecting new projects. It also holds a yearly strategic retreat to review year to year progress and identify quality and safety priorities for the upcoming year.
