Professional Activities
Dr. Michael Wilhelm is associate professor (CHS) in the Division of Critical Care and director of Quality and Safety for the Pediatric ICU. He serves on multiple safety-related committees throughout the local health institution, including the UW Health Patient Safety Committee and American Family Children’s Hospital Quality Coordinating Council. In 2018 he received a UW Health Physician Excellence Award for Clinical Practice Excellence, and in 2023 he was recognized with a UW Health Safety Leadership Award.
Clinical Interests
Wilhelm’s clinical interests include the peri-operative care of congenital heart disease, the interaction between the heart and lungs in critically-ill patients, and inflammatory and infectious diseases of the heart.
Research Interests
Currently Wilhelm dedicates his efforts to quality and safety initiatives in the Pediatric ICU and Pediatric Heart Program. He partners with members of the entire team to enhance the value of care for our patients and their families.
