Amy Frenkel, a second-year medical student at the UW School of Medicine and Public Health, received the Excellence in Student Research Award at the 22nd Annual Medical Student Research Forum last month. Forty students were competitively selected to present their research with a podium talk in four concurrent sessions, with each session selecting a winner. Frenkel’s presentation, “Comprehensive Assessment of Aortic Coarctation and Its Treatment in a Porcine Model,” was scored highest in her session by faculty, students, and staff in attendance. Frenkel was a 2023 Shapiro Summer Research Program student in the Department of Pediatrics; she was mentored by Luke Lamers, MD, associate professor, Division of Cardiology.
