Professional Activities

Dr. Beth Smith is associate professor (CT) in the Division of Neonatology and Newborn Nursery. A former registered nurse, Smith continues to strive to provide compassionate care to the families she serves. She enjoys working with a multidisciplinary team, including nurses, lactation consultants, medical assistants, and therapists.

Clinical Interests

Smith’s clinical interests include neonatal resuscitation, quality improvement in the newborn nursery, and residency and medical student education. She enjoys providing anticipatory guidance and support to families during the first days of their infant’s life, which can be a challenging and stressful time.

Research Interests

Smith enjoys working as a neonatal resuscitation program (NRP) instructor, providing ongoing education to healthcare professionals to improve the outcome of newborns at the time of

delivery. Smith has been an active participant of the Fresh Beginnings program, which provides education to expectant parents undergoing treatment for opioid use disorder. She enjoys participating in quality improvement initiatives in the newborn nursery, including initiatives to identify newborns with congenital cytomegalovirus (CMV).
