Dr. Leah Sanford

Dr. Leah Sanford grew up in Janesville, Wisconsin, and attended undergrad at Carthage College, where she majored in chemistry. She also completed a master’s degree in biomedical sciences at Midwestern University before attending medical school. She enjoys pediatrics because children are natural teachers, offering resilience and honesty through every stage of development. She loves the combination of medicine, advocacy, teamwork, and long-term impact that comes with caring for children and their families. She also loves the interdisciplinary approach to caring for patients and is constantly learning from peers within other disciplines. Outside of medicine, she enjoys ceramic wheel throwing, lap swimming, and spending time with her three rabbits.

Why Madison?

“I was drawn to the UW because of the strong sense of community I felt during my time with the CPT service and during my interview. I wanted a program with excellent pediatric training while still prioritizing kindness, mentorship, and resident wellness. The UW felt like the perfect fit. Growing up not too far from Madison I knew that there was a great balance of academic medicine, outdoor activities, and a welcoming community, which made it easy to picture building both my career and life there.”
