Professional Activities

Dr. Rachel Petro is a clinical assistant professor in the Division of Neonatology and Newborn Nursery. In her role as a Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) instructor at UnityPoint Health Meriter Hospital, she provides ongoing education to healthcare professionals to improve the care of newborns at the time of delivery. Petro is active in both resident and medical student education. 

Clinical Interests

Petro is a newborn hospitalist who is enthusiastic about the health and wellbeing of newborns. Additionally, she is committed to providing guidance and reassurance to parents during the birth hospitalization, which can be a stressful time. Petro’s clinical interests include stabilization of newborns following delivery, neonatal hyperbilirubinemia, and routine newborn procedures. Further, she enjoys facilitating the care of newborns by working as part of a multidisciplinary team, which includes nurses, lactation consultants, therapists, and other NICU team members.
