Emma Patch, MD

Dr. Emma Patch grew up in Mequon, Wisconsin, and attended UW–Madison where she majored in genetics and genomics. She stayed in Madison for medical school, which means she is a triple Badger! Pediatrics is where her interests, values, and personality most naturally align. She found herself gravitating toward pediatric patients across every rotation, inspired by the curiosity, resilience, and joy that children bring to medicine. She is interested in the intersection of clinical care, public health, and education, but she is keeping an open mind when thinking about the shape of her future career. Outside of medicine, she enjoys anything that gets her outdoors: running, hiking, swimming, playing sand volleyball, and golfing.

Why Madison?

“Madison has been home to me for much of my adult life, and I feel incredibly fortunate to continue my training here. I am now a triple Badger! I completed both my undergraduate and medical education at the University of Wisconsin–Madison, through which I developed a deep appreciation for the institution’s mission and impact across the state. What continues to draw me to the UW is its unwavering commitment to public health, community engagement, and medical education. This dedication is not only embedded in the broader mission of the university but also clearly reflected in the Pediatrics Residency Program. Through statewide partnerships and a focus on serving diverse and underserved populations, the UW prioritizes improving health outcomes for communities across Wisconsin. I am deeply committed to practicing in Wisconsin long-term, particularly in the context of the physician shortages impacting many communities across the state. For me, there is no better place to train than in the environment where I hope to build my career and at an institution that shares this mission. I have seen firsthand how the UW prepares physicians to meet these needs with both clinical excellence and a strong sense of responsibility to the communities they serve. Ultimately, I chose to stay in Madison because the UW provides an environment where I can grow as a clinician, educator, and advocate while continuing to serve the communities that have shaped my journey into medicine.”
