Professional Activities

Dr. Cynthia Ortinau is associate professor and chief in the Division of Neonatology and Newborn Nursery and the Alfred Dorrance Daniels Professor on Diseases of Children. She is co-chair of the Cardiac Neurodevelopmental Outcome Collaborative (CNOC), a multidisciplinary, multinational collaborative focused on optimizing neurodevelopmental outcomes for all individuals with pediatric and congenital heart disease. She also serves on the Communication and Networking Committee of the Newborn Brain Society and is an elected member to the Society for Pediatric Research and the American Pediatric Society.

Clinical Interests

Ortinau is a neonatologist with interests in neonatal neurology and neonatal cardiology, with a particular focus on neurological and neurodevelopmental outcomes for neonates with congenital heart disease.

Research Interests

Ortinau’s research is at the intersection of neonatal neurology and cardiology. Her research program studies brain development, brain injury, and neurodevelopmental and psychosocial outcomes for high-risk neonates, with a particular focus on the neonatal congenital heart disease population. Ortinau uses cutting-edge magnetic resonance imaging techniques to define prenatal and postnatal brain maldevelopment and to study pathways that disrupt typical brain development.
