Professional Activities

Dr. Mita Naik is assistant professor (CHS) in the Division of Endocrinology and Diabetes. She is a pediatrics endocrinologist who is board certified by the American Board of Obesity Medicine.

Clinical Interests

Naik’s clinical interests include the care of children with general pediatric endocrine conditions with a focus on pediatric obesity and related comorbidities. She has participated in drug trials for specific types of genetic obesity, including Bardet Biedl Syndrome. She is also a part of the multidisciplinary team (physicians, psychologists, nutritionists, and exercise physiologists) within the UW Health Kids Fitness Clinic. Her goal is to provide treatment geared toward the individual child while encouraging family involvement.

Research Interests

Naik’s research focus lies in the field of pediatric obesity and related comorbidities, especially in the prevention of Type 2 diabetes mellitus in children. Through the UW Health Kids Fitness Clinic, she integrates research into understanding the factors contributing to body composition and weight gain in children and to studying the treatment effects on visceral obesity, psychological barriers, and misconceptions related to pediatric obesity.
