Dr. Alexandra Karras

Dr. Alexandra (Ally) Karras grew up in Sherman, Illinois, just outside of Springfield. She attended the University of Iowa where she majored in biomedical engineering. Dr. Karras chose pediatrics because she was draw to the joy of the patient population. Children are curious, resilient, and most importantly, fun! She loves the opportunity to care for patients in all stages of childhood and throughout all levels of disease complexity. She is particularly interested in education and advocacy, including advocating for patients at a community and larger level, and being a voice for patients who can’t advocate for themselves yet. When she’s not in the hospital, she enjoys reading, baking, running, and spending time with family and friends.

Why Madison?

“Madison stood out to me for a lot reasons! I loved the medium size of the program, and the family feel of it. I just had the feeling that if I went to the UW I would get to train at a great institution with people who cared about me as more than just a resident and wanted to get to know me as a person. The cherry on top for me was the vibrancy of the city and having family close by for support.”
