Professional Activities

Dr. John Hokanson is professor (CHS) in the Division of Cardiology. He is chair of the Wisconsin Department of Health Services Critical Congenital Heart Disease Screening Subcommittee and the chair of the American Academy of Pediatrics section on Cardiology and Cardiac Surgery’s Survey Committee. He has mentored numerous undergraduate students, medical students, residents, and fellows as they complete their research projects.

Clinical Interests

Hokanson is board certified in pediatric cardiology and adult congenital heart disease. His clinical interests include screening for heart disease in infants and children, echocardiography, and exercise physiology.

Research Interests

Hokanson mentors undergraduate students as they complete survey projects designed to expose trainees to the processes of research and its role in health care careers. His primary research involves the detection of critical congenital heart disease in newborns.
