Professional Activities
Dr. Brigid Gregg is visiting associate professor (tenure track) and chief in the Division of Endocrinology and Diabetes. She has served as a peer reviewer for many academic journals and grant awarding bodies and is a current National Institutes of Health study section member. She has been passionate about medical student nutrition education across the curriculum including leading a culinary medicine elective. She has received awards for scholarship, teaching, and mentoring including several Top Cited Paper awards and an Outstanding Research Mentor award. She was also a past co-chair of the American Diabetes Association Women’s Interprofessional Network. Gregg was a faculty well-being associate at her former institution.
Clinical Interests
Gregg is a pediatric endocrinologist focused on caring for young people with all forms of diabetes as well as prediabetes, metabolic syndrome, and rapid infant growth.
Research Activities
The Gregg research group studies how early life events make people more likely to develop metabolic diseases. The ultimate goal is to find treatments that help these high-risk individuals. To do this, the lab uses cell models and samples from human mothers and babies to see how nutrition during infancy contributes to long-term risks for diabetes, insulin resistance, and liver issues like MASLD. Additionally, the research group is participating in a large study that looks at how a mother’s blood sugar during pregnancy affects her milk and her baby’s health markers. Specifically, the group is testing how glucose levels during pregnancy change breast milk composition and how mammary cells function.
