Professional Activities

Dr. Melissa Cercone is clinical professor in the Division of Critical Care. As director of the Department of Pediatrics Simulation Program and program director of the Pediatric Critical Care Fellowship, she is actively engaged in the education of trainees and other learners. Her contributions to education have been recognized with several awards, including the 2014 Department of Pediatrics Todd Varness Outstanding Clinical Teaching Award, a 2018 UW Health Clinical Educator Physician Excellence Award, and the 2021 UW Health Clinical Simulation Program Simulationist of the Year Award.

Clinical Interests

Cercone’s critical interests include pediatric critical care medicine, simulation-based education and training, pediatric resuscitation and procedural training.

Research Interests

Cercone’s research endeavors center on optimizing simulation-based training efficiency, implementing pediatric rapid response teams, and conducting evaluations of resident programs.
