Professional Activities
Dr. David Bernhardt is professor (CHS) in the Division of General Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine. He is the director of the Primary Care Sports Medicine Fellowship. Previously, he has served on the American Medical Society Board of Directors and the American Academy of Pediatrics Council on Sports Medicine and Fitness. In 2017, Bernhardt was honored with the American Academy of Pediatrics Thomas Shaffer Award in recognition of his contributions to the field of pediatric sports medicine.
Bernhardt has a joint appointment with the Department of Orthopedics and Rehabilitation.
Clinical Interests
Bernhardt specializes in primary care sports medicine and is particularly interested in pediatric and adolescent athlete concerns. He is a team physician for the University of Wisconsin Athletic Department. In this role, he provides medical coverage for Badger men’s basketball, women’s volleyball and crew, along with men’s and women’s cross country and track. Bernhardt’s other clinical interests include the care of concussions, the fatigued athlete, and common injuries in distance runners and triathletes.
