Bikash Pattnaik, PhD, was recently awarded $20,000 from the University of Wisconsin Medical School Research Committee for his one-year project, “Lipotoxicity through Inwardly Rectifying Potassium Channels (Kir) as a Mechanism of Eye Disease”. This project will test the hypothesis that one of the mechanisms that lead to retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) atrophy in eye diseases is the altered regulation of Kir7.1 channel by signaling lipids.
