New connections! Pediatric cancer research, meet Wisconsin volleyball

There are many diverse worlds within the University of Wisconsin–Madison. It’s possible, even likely, that some of these worlds’ orbits will never intersect. Except when they do! This occurred recently when two members of the Wisconsin volleyball team, Kristen Simon and Morgan Van Wie, paid a visit to the lab of Rebecca (Becky) Richards, MD, PhD, to ask, “What magic happens here?” Richards is an assistant professor in the Division of Hematology, Oncology, Transplant, and Cellular Therapy. Her research group is developing CAR T-cell therapies with a goal of curing pediatric cancers. Asked to be an honorary captain for one game, Richards enthusiastically accepted.
