Mei Baker, MD, FACMG, the Wynne Mateffy Professor of Pediatrics and co-director of the Wisconsin Newborn Screening Laboratory, was awarded a $15,000 subaward for her project, “Sickle cell data collection program in Wisconsin.” The project will develop the state’s first Sickle Cell Data Registry with de-identified data on individuals. Using data from the Wisconsin Newborn Screening Laboratory, the Wisconsin Vital Records Office, Medicaid, and electronic health records, the secure registry will create standardized data collection methods that can be aggregated and analyzed on a large scale, giving researchers a rich resource of information on this rare disease. The project is funded through collaborators from the Medical College of Wisconsin and supported by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
