Brian Williams receives career development award to address vaping among adolescents and young adults
Brian Williams, MDBrian Williams, MD, assistant professor in the Division of Hospital Medicine and Complex Care, has been awarded a K08 grant from the National Institute on Drug Abuse totaling $966,600. His project is entitled, “Addressing the Vaping Epidemic in Adolescents and Young Adults: Advancing Our Understanding of Cessation Treatment and Engagement.” The project’s work will be based at the UW-Center for Tobacco Research and Intervention. It will be supported by an expert team of mentors and collaborators, who represent leaders in tobacco research, qualitative research, data analysis, and clinical trials. The project’s objectives are to (1) advance knowledge and skills in experimental design, implementation, and evaluation, (2) advance understanding of qualitative methodology, (3) increase knowledge of nicotine addiction treatment via both medication and psychosocial interventions, and (4) gain a better understanding of research ethics, leadership, and skills in manuscript and grant writing. The grant begins on June 1 and continues for five years.
