Award from Retina Research Foundation will fund Chris Sorenson’s work to improve vision outcomes in patients with proliferative vitreoretinopathy (PVR)

The Retina Research Foundation awarded Chris Sorenson, PhD, distinguished scientist III in the Division of Neonatology and Newborn Nursery, with a $50,000 grant for her ongoing project “Treatment and Prevention of PVR and Retinal Detachment.” This work aims to improve vision outcomes in patients with proliferative vitreoretinopathy (PVR), a disease of the eye and complication of retinal detachment, by preventing or decreasing scar formation. Sorenson and her team will continue to test the hypothesis that the expression and activity of Bcl-2, a protein that prevents cell death in microglia and recruited myeloid cells plays an important role during retinal scar formation. The one-year grant term began on January 1, 2025.
