Professional Activities

Dr. Willem de Lange is scientist II in the Division of Cardiology.

Research Interests

de Lange’s research group focuses on the unraveling the molecular causes of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM). To do so, the group’s researchers study both animal (mouse) models of HCM as well as CRISPR engineered human iPSC lines that cause HCM mutations. iPSCs are then used to generate engineered cardiac tissue constructs which they can use to measure contractility, replicating many features of HCM. This allows them to gain a better understanding of disease pathogenesis and serves as a platform to test novel treatment strategies.
