Professional Activities

Dr. Michael Eckrich is visiting associate professor (CHS) in the Division of Hematology, Oncology, Transplant, and Cellular Therapy. He serves as director of the Pediatric Transplant and Cellular Therapy Program. Eckrich has experience building teams that executed on the phase I and expansion trials in gene editing for sickle cell disease. He is committed to pioneering and optimizing the care for these novel therapies, as well as advancing the care in other transplant and cellular therapies.

Clinical Interests

Eckrich’s clinical interest is in continuing to develop and optimize functionally curative therapies for non-malignant diseases and performing safe and effective transplantation in the setting of the often acute, complex diseases states that often affect patients. Eckrich says a “good day” is delivering on excellent and detail-oriented care for pediatric patients in need of transplant or cellular therapies.

Research Interests

Eckrich’s research interests are in optimizing transplant and cell therapy procedures, including collection of hematopoietic stem cells through apheresis. He is most interested to see if the approaches that have been successful in leading to curative therapies for sickle cell patients can be leveraged to lead to breakthroughs for solid tumors and other difficult to treat pediatric diseases.
