Professional Activities

Dr. Ann Allen is an associate professor (CHS), program director of the pediatric hospital medicine fellowship, and medical director of community pediatric hospital medicine in the Division of Hospital Medicine and Complex Care. Allen works closely with community and regional partners to provide education, quality improvement (QI), and clinical expertise regarding inpatient pediatrics. As an educator, Allen is the chair of both the Academic Pediatric Association (APA) Special Interest Group Teaching in Community Settings and American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) Section of Hospital Medicine Resident and Fellow Outreach Subcommittee. She has collaborated to develop the national Pediatric Hospital Medicine Fellowship curriculum. Allen is passionate about medical education and the recipient of multiple teaching awards from medical students and residents.

Clinical Interests

Allen is a pediatric hospitalist interested in improvement of pediatric care.

Research Interests

Allen has been the local leader of multiple national AAP QI projects. One area of focus is the improvement of care of infants with neonatal abstinence syndrome throughout the state. She has been awarded multiple grants for this work, most recently from the University of Wisconsin–Madison Prevention Research Center and the AAP Maternal-Infant Health and Opioid Use Collaborative.
