The Wisconsin Partnership Program (WPP) recently granted 14 awards through its 20th Anniversary Postdoctoral Grant Program. These awards will allow postdocs to pursue a research or education project or a professional development opportunity with a focus on improving or advancing health, health care, or health equity in Wisconsin and beyond. Molly Mulcahy, PhD, RD, postdoctoral trainee in the Division of Endocrinology and Diabetes, received an award in the amount of $20,000 for her project, “Preconception Weight Loss Strategy Impact on Gestational Glycemia, Milk Lipids and Offspring Islet Health.” The one-year award began on October 1, 2024, and will support Mulcahy’s research, which seeks to understand the impact of preconception weight loss strategies (incretin drugs, dietary intervention, bariatric surgery) on gestational glycemia, postnatal milk lipidome, and offspring pancreatic development and glycemic homeostasis in a preclinical mouse model. Mulcahy hopes the project will provide critical insight for breaking transgenerational patterns of poor metabolic health. The study is a collaboration between the Davis lab in the Department of Medicine and the Harris lab in the Department of Surgery.
