Title: All QI is Health Equity Work
Session Overview: In this Grand Rounds, Dr. Casey Lion will discuss the intersection between quality improvement and healthcare equity, highlighting the possible impacts that QI interventions can have on equity with examples from the literature. She will discuss structured approaches that can help promote equitable outcomes of QI work, along with key data considerations and strategies for successful community partnership.

Audience: All members of the Department of Pediatrics
Title: Designing QI to Promote Equity: Data, Ethics, and Community Partners
Overview: In this 90-minute workshop, Dr. Casey Lion will lead discussion and small group activities building on her Grand Rounds presentation that morning. We will discuss the challenges and opportunities associated with the sociodemographic variables often used to look for disparities; practice taking a structured approach to anticipating intended and unintended consequences of QI on equity, using participants’ projects as examples; and discuss practical strategies for identifying and engaging community partners in QI work. This highly interactive workshop will focus on the issues of greatest interest to workshop participants as they seek to promote health equity, and/or safeguard against creating or worsening inequities, with their QI project.
Registration for this workshop is required.

Grand Rounds Overview: Pediatric Grand Rounds is a weekly multidisciplinary and interprofessional conference designed to improve a participant’s ability to practice pediatric medicine, including patient care, conducting healthcare research, providing medical education, addressing public health, and implementing innovation.
Grand Rounds Target Audience: MD/DO, RN, APRN, Residents, Fellows, and other Trainees.
Grand Rounds Global Learning Objectives:
- Identify state of the art, evidence-based practices for prevention, diagnosis and treatment in pediatric medicine
- Analyze issues of diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice relevant to pediatric care
- Collaborate and communicate effectively with other health care professionals, community members and families to advocate for the health care needs of children
- Describe new scientific advances and trends in pediatric medicine that may be translatable and impact future patient care
- Identify roles and responsibilities as part of a healthcare team that functions in value-driven, ethical environments
